Umushyikirano is an annual home-grown initiative that provides a platform for leaders and ordinary citizens to discuss issues affecting the nation, including governance and national unity.

During the meeting, Rwandans directly engage with their leaders about the country’s challenges, opportunities and growth as well as the country’s development agenda. Today Umushyikirano is known as the National Dialogue Council.

"Urubuga rw’Itangazamakuru" (Club de la Presse) of this Sunday 19-12-2021 broadcasted in synergy by twelve radio and two TV stations across the country focused on the “National Dialogue Council (Umushyikirano)"

The 18th Annual Dialogue Meeting has been postponed dramatically due to the rising incidence of COVID-19 in the country.

Invitees took a retrospective look at the12 Resolutions adopted by the 17th National Leadership Retreat and their implementation.

The invitees commented of the resolution regarding to relocating high risk zones residents. They argued that the decision was appropriate but all criticized the way it was implemented without prior discussion with citizens, and the way it was done quickly, without proper compensation to those who deserved it.

Despite this, the guests said that relocated residents expressed their gratitude to the government after seeing that the evacuation sites were flooded just after relocation.

The said that the Resolution related to solving the problem of network connectivity and other malfunctioning infrastructures that impede the development of the country; has not been achieved

However the invitees appreciated the implemented resolutions like

- Building more classrooms to solve the problem of overcrowded classrooms that impeded the learning of children.

-Making reforms in the education sector to allow students with high grades to receive government scholarships regardless of their social status ( Ubudehe).

Presided over by the Head of State, Umushyikirano is mandated by the Constitution and it is attended by central and local government officials, diaspora Rwandans, diplomats, civil society organisations as well as private sector operators.
