Each year on April 7, Rwanda begins Kwibuka -a100-day remembrance period for the hundreds of thousands of Tutsis kicked during 1994 genocide.

In the Eastern part if Rwanda the genocide was committed in a special way and killed. Many Tutsi in a short time.  It is the only area where Killers Roasted and Ate Tutsi meet

Urubuga rw’Itangazamakuru (Club de la Presse) talk show of this Sunday 18-04-2021 broadcasted in synergy by ten radios across the country and a Television (TV Isango star) focused on “The exceptional history of the genocide against the Tutsi in eastern Rwanda”

1. RWASAMIRERA Jean Damascene/ Genocide Survivor from Ngoma district

2. MAGNIFIQUE Paulette/ Genocide Sirvivor from Gatsibo District

3. Anastase RWABUNEZA /Journalist

The guests explained the history of eastern Rwanda before and during the genocide pointing out that genocide had been prepared early.  They gave examples where Tutsis were being persecuted in their residential cells, Tutsi children were being persecuted in schools and some Tutsi employees had been fired from various institutions mainly due to the fact that the area was led by close associates to the genocidaires’ regime

Some of the notorious areas in Eastern province due to the way in which the local Tutsis were slaughtered   Kiziguro, Nyarubuye, Mwulire,  Nyamata  etc

The victims cannot   forget Daniel Rugayamukama who was notorious for hunting down every Tutsi. Whenever he grabbed victims, he would cut them and remove their hearts, roast them and eat them – this ritual was believed to protect him from future revenge by victims’ spirits.

Residents of Nyarubuye sector in Kirehe district nicknamed him “Simba”- a swahili word meaning a Lion.

Simba was so cruel that he spared no Tutsi in his sight within the village. He captured his victims, beat them and sliced them to specifically remove their hearts which he would roast from a barbeque fire.

Apart from this cannibal man, other militiamen seized victims and sliced them like cabbage on tree trunks to pour their blood in wooden containers (imivure) to see if their blood resembles to other human beings.

Rwabuneza Anastase said that the genocide in his residential area had started early because the Interahamwe were trained to kill being told that he who kill a Tutsi will take over their property.

The elderly Rwasamirera said that Interahamwe from Kigali were brought in by key leaders at the time to kill Tutsis in Eastern province.

Survivors in the area testified that a plot to kill Tutsis had been hatched because they were surrounded by extremist Hutus to protect them and provide information to kill them.

Survivors in the area testified that a plot to assassinate Tutsis had been hatched because their residential areas were surrounded by extremist Hutus to prevent them from fleeing to neighboring countries such as Tanzania and Uganda.

The conclusion of the talk show was that the lesson we can draw from this is not to listen to anyone who wants to bring back the Genocide, we have to fight them at all costs.
