Long-term benefits from CHOGM

The guests said that to the Government of Rwanda, CHOGM was a big deal because it showcased Rwanda’s ability to effectively host the world.

To the Heads of States, CHOGM was a big deal because it gave them an opportunity to fraternize, network and make major decisions that touch on the event’s theme, “Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming”.

They also said that CHOGM has left long-term benefits because it opened to other international conferences to come to Rwanda, and that the conference resulted in major projects.

Among those projects we can say the launch of BioNTech mRNA vaccine manufacturing plant, the first of a kind on the continent. There are other six deals Rwanda concluded during CHOGM including Canada-Rwanda Air Transport Agreement, Jamaica-Rwanda tourism deal, Rwanda-Zambia agricultural agreement and Commonwealth School of Compliance in Rwanda.

They also pointed out that the infrastructure built to host CHOGM like roads and other facilities arguing that they are in the interest of the country because even after CHOGM they will continue to be used by Rwandans

On the other hand, Journalist Joseph and Hon.Frank Habineza, pointed out that although the meeting was successful, the expectations of the people were not met because as farmers were not able to sell their products as they had hoped because all food consumed by visitors were imported by Rwandan Hotels.

They added that small business owners in the city of Kigali found it difficult to work during the meeting because they were given strict instructions.

The talk show guests however appreciated Rwanda that despite being one of Africa’s smallest countries; despite the immense odds stacked against it after the genocide against the Tutsis, Rwanda has emerged as a development pacesetter in Africa.

The FIFA Executive Committee also later endorsed Rwanda to host the 73rd FIFA World Congress in March 2023.
