King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa

Presenters: Valentin UMUHIRE and Solange AYANONE

On June 26th, 2016, the Sunday radio talkshow “Club de la Presse" focused on “The return to the country of the King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa". The exiled last Rwandan King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa, was overthrown in 1961 and currently lives in the United States of America.

The Democratic Green Party of Rwanda recently called upon the Rwandan Government to help bring back this King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa. And this has been the focus of the Sunday radio talk show.

The show started by giving word to the representative of the party "Democratic green party of Rwanda" to explain the reasons of asking the Rwandan Government to repatriate the king Kigeli V Ndahindurwa who lives in exile in the US for 55 years.

Jean Claude NTEZIMANA explained by saying that in the statue of Green Party, there is a principle that says that this party will fight for the repatriation of refugees.

Therefore, he said that the case of the king Kigeli V Ndahindurwa is special , because the king is a special person who should not suffer in foreign countries when even the Rwandan constitution does not accept that refugees remain in exile. The Green party representative added that the Rwandan Government should take the initiative to help the king to return to his country as supreme person, he should have been given all the privileges that are guaranteed by law for a former head of State as stipulated in the Rwandan constitution. He continued by saying that Kigeli should come and find a place in the Governance of the country such as being a great advisor to the Government.

According to Anthere Rwanyange, repatriation of the king is really necessary. But he wonders why Kigeli does not accept to come back like other Rwandans living in exile, he should have returned after the liberation of Rwanda by RPF INKOTANYI. He continued by saying that the king should come back without having the ambition of leading, because Rwanda is a country based on the Republic and not on the monarchy.

In various writings in newspapers on which referred the journalist Rwanyange, the Rwandan Government has shown the will to encourage the king to return to the country, but he would not understand. He explained that even, it has set up a committee in charge of going and negotiate with him to return in Rwanda, but he refused saying that his repatriation should not be a small thing.

On the side of reaction of listeners, many messages were received from whatsapp and Facebook, even phone callings. What people say in common is that, King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa must return to his country considering his age and the years he has spent in exile.

However, they added that the King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa must forget affairs related to politics. They continue saying that the Rwandan Government must in turn ensure his well-being, by providing to him everything necessary to live in good conditions as somebody who was the king of the country.

During the talk show 5 callings and 10 messages were received.
